Pothole news
The Yorkshire Evening Post is reporting on progress we've made to increase the rate of pothole repairs in Leeds . The important bit is why this is happening: we've invested into new technology that enables quicker and longer-lasting repair. Thank you to the teams out there now, working so hard on this. But there's plenty more to do. In recent days we've been chasing reports ranging from the Laiths to the Spennithornes to Cottage Road.

Free travel for disabled bus pass holders
Tomorrow we're expecting a big update on Labour Mayor Tracy Brabin's plans to bring West Yorkshire buses into public control (you can read more here ). In the meantime, we're really pleased that disabled pass holders across West Yorkshire will soon be able to travel for free at any time of day. The change begins in Wakefield from May this year, allowing the Mayor to test its impact before rolling it out across the region from April 2027. Tracy Brabin said: “Making travel free

Ring Road / Lawnswood roundabout updates
A bit of a collected item! Firstly, Weetwood Lane (by Weetwood Court) is partly closed for urgent Yorkshire Water works as we wrote last week . That's annoying but we're glad that YW have finally taken responsibility for it after we lobbied them with residents for some weeks. However, the diversions have not been clear or widespread enough and so Weetwood Court residents have had quite a bit of speeding to deal with. We've asked them to increase signage at more key locations.

Weetwood Lane road closure in March
Yorkshire Water have taken responsibility for fixing the leak on Weetwood Lane after weeks of very tenacious residents taking them to ask, thank you! Unfortunately it does mean a very inconvenient road closure. We are chasing for more details but wanted to give a heads up: “I am writing to inform you that Yorkshire Water will be carrying out urgent repairs to a water leak on Weetwood Lane, between Weetwood Crescent and Weetwood Mill Lane. To undertake the works safely, a fu

Latest Lawnswood update
Here’s the latest from the contractors. We meet regularly with them and with local residents, and do weekly street surgeries in the ward including in Lawnswood, to help us stay on top of any issues: “In the roundabout centre (area 2) we have continued installing the new kerb lines and laying the tegula paving. This splash strip allows for a mowing margin and avoids the build up of detritus in the area. We are also installing the entries to the rain garden area. • In area 1 (o

Dealing with potholes
We know that potholes get worse with the bad weather. We wrote about potholes in January but have noticed that very few potholes are directly reported to us. Please remember that if you report a pothole online here and don’t feel it is being repaired as quickly as it should be then we can chase it - just email us. You can reply to this email if you have one of these. Thank you! And top points to the constituent who used a Guinness can to illustrate the depth of this pothole

Spen Lane road resurfacing in February
We've been told there will be essential road resurfacing works on Spen Lane , West Park at its junction with Butcher Hill, evening works only planned to start on 16 th February for 3 days. The layout of this junction and traffic movements means the council has no alternative but to close both these roads at the mini roundabout to carry out works safely and efficiently. To keep disruption to a minimum these works will be carried out in the evenings between 19:00 – 00:00

Green light on pothole repair
Take a look at this BBC article about how different councils are performing when it comes to the condition of their roads and how effectively they use the money to repair roads . Leeds is one of very few councils given the highest 'Green' rating. This is not a moment of self-congratulation, don't worry! Ultimately it's the state of our own local roads that matter to us, not how they compare to other places. But what this does tell us is that the council uses the money it has

New: Electric vehicle charging if you don't have a drive
If you have an electric car but live in one of the many terrace properties without a drive then you may be paying quite a bit more to charge your car. We've been lobbying for a simple solution here, and now the council is piloting one: "On 5 December 2025 we launched a 12-month pilot allowing the installation of a cross-footway cable channel that is recessed into the footway. Kerbo Charge is our approved partner for this pilot. You can now apply for a cross-footway EV chargin
