Opposing unlimited night flights
A few people have emailed us about opposing more night flights and the airport's breach of their conditions, so we thought it would be helpful to outline where we stand. Like you we live in the ward and can hear the planes at night. We care about this issue because of the public health impact and because of the principle that the planning conditions exist for good reason, and must be upheld. We do not support any move towards unlimited night flights at Leeds Bradford Airport.

The change begins in Wakefield from May this year, allowing the Mayor to test its impact before rolling it out across the region from April 2027. Tracy Brabin said: “Making travel free

LBA application now published
We've pasted below the email we received from the Head of Planning earlier today. It relates to what we shared a couple of weeks ago in this newsletter. Do have a read of that for context . In essence, the airport want to avoid a proper and public planning process where all can get involved. They've tried it before and failed. But we have to go through the process. We're pleased that the council is making the decision to do a full call for evidence; we've called for this ours

Latest on the airport
In very short, Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) are now applying to alter their existing planning conditions to a 'noise quota' system whereby they could have more of the quieter flights at night. We don't yet have the application itself - it's coming in November - so the below information is based on what the airport have shared with us in a briefing. We have a lot of questions about this! And we're sure you do too. To reiterate our role; while councillors cannot control the pla
