Otley Run - next steps
In March we shared our 5 point plan for bringing the Otley Run under control, working in collaboration with local residents, police, council teams, and venue representatives. Some people have asked us what's happening with the related Taylor's Sports Bar planning application; so that you're aware it will go before a Planning Committee (we asked that it's decided by councillors rather than directly by officers) unless rejected outright, and the date of that has not yet been de

Taylor's Sports Bar - our objection
We’ve formally objected to a retrospective planning application to turn a former restaurant at 107 Otley Road into a bar, with outdoor drinking space. Our full objection is quite a bit longer, so we've shared a summary of our concerns below. We strongly encourage you to submit your own comments on the Planning portal. Simply visit the Planning website here And then search for this reference: 26/00044/FU • Noise and disturbance -The venue is right next to homes, and we’ve had

Getting the Otley Run under control: our 5 point plan
The Otley Run brings thousands of visitors through our area every weekend. But it also brings problems - anti-social behaviour, litter, and disruption for residents. It has grown in recent years, with more and more non-students taking part. Since being elected we’ve been working on a clear five-point plan to get it under control. Here’s what we’ve already achieved, and what comes next: 1 - Ban the behaviours that cause harm When we were elected we made it our mission to tackl

Taylor's sports bar - planning application
You may have seen the retrospective planning application in respect of Taylor's Sports Bar. If not, you can view it - just search 26/00044/FU on the Public Access website . We wanted to let you know, that as the Weetwood Ward councillors, we have requested that the planning application is sent to Plans Panel. This means the application will be heard in a public meeting and determination will not be made by planning officers. We will attend the public Plans Panel meeting. We

9 Weetwood Lane ('Catch') - our submission
Thanks to everyone who emailed us with their thoughts on the premises licence application at the old chippy . The consensus view was the same as our own - good to have a new business occupy the space, but let's make sure it doesn't negatively affect the area. Thanks also to the residents of the area around the site who took the time to chat to us about this and other issues at their door on Saturday. Here's our submission to Licensing in full, jointly with Alex Sobel MP: We

Our submission - new ‘Catch’ premises application
As shared previously, there is an application for an Indian gastropub at 9 Weetwood Lane - the old Catch/Bryan’s. Read our previous article to see their application and how to submit your views to Licensing . Deadline is 17th Feb. This is what we put forward for the proposed premises there in 2024 ( see our article at the time ) and while that fell through for unrelated reasons, we think the same conditions are totally reasonable and will ensure the new premises can thrive a

Application in the 'Catch' premises
This licence application is in our ward! The old 'Catch' premises at the top of Weetwood Lane. It's by Soho Tavern, who seem to run Indian gastropub premises in a few other parts of northern England. We have only just received this application so as with the Tesco licence application we haven't yet written our submission - we'll share our next week. As with others, our priority will simply be ensuring there is not a negative contribution to the Otley Run. We certainly want th

Tesco licence application
Tesco are planning to open a store in the other half of Wilkos. This includes a licence to sell alcohol. Please take a look at the application below. You can formally share your thoughts with Entertainment Licensing by email: Entertainment.Licen@leeds.gov.uk We agree with the Headingley and Hyde Park Labour Councillors (it's in their ward) that Tesco should have the same Licensing rules as the recently opened Morrisons further down, but we haven't written our own submission y

Golden Beam: Otley Run application refused
As you may know, the Golden Beam (Wetherspoons) applied for a variation to their premises licence to allow them to let in Otley Run groups. We opposed this application, you can find our shared objection with Headingley Labour Councillors and Alex Sobel MP here . Today the Licensing Sub-Committee heard all the arguments and unanimously decided to reject the application. We do not have the full decision write-up yet, but we can say that this decision builds on the policy work w

Otley Run update - including work with the New Inn
We had a useful chat with staff at the New Inn in November, followed by a rainy street surgery on Saturday in that area with some of our super friendly local resident volunteers! Following that we felt it'd be useful to share a short Otley Run update. We have successfully had the council's 'Cumulative Impact Assessment' policy for Headingley and Weetwood reviewed and strengthened, making it harder for new venues to join the Otley Run and making it more possible to add further

Golden Beam Licence application
It's an Otley Run heavy newsletter today. Sorry about that! The Golden Beam (Wetherspoons) have applied for a change to their licence, to enable them to have Otley Runners. We are supporting the objection written by Headingley Councillors Jonathan Pryor and Abdul Hannan, also supported by Alex Sobel MP. Please do give it a read. We've also shared The Golden Beam's application underneath. Please consider sharing your own views - for or against, all views and experiences are wa
