A660 works update

As you know, we share regular updates from Eric Wright about the work they're doing on Lawnswood. We think people like just knowing what's going on.

They've been so well received we've pushed the council for the same for the wider A660 works (from Headingley down to St Marks Road). They've committed to doing this and they're really useful too.


Here's the latest, including dates. We'll share these regularly.


"Below is your regular update regarding Phase 2 construction works on A660 Otley Road, Headingley Lane and Woodhouse Lane. Find out more about the phase here.


Entire phase

  • Everything is on track with full programme of work to be complete by Spring 2026.


Section 1

• Works outside of Headingley Central (Arndale Centre) still progressing well and on programme to be completed by end of February 2026.

• Works started on the western side of the road between North Lane and Shaw Lane.


Upcoming works:

  • Construction work on the western side of the road, between North Lane and Shaw Lane will now be undertaken at night. This helps to enable faster construction and less disruption on the network – helping buses and local businesses by reducing daytime disruption. Night works will be between 7pm–5am with noisy works taking place prior to11pm. The website has been updated to reflect this, and local businesses have been engaged with to inform them of the night works outside their buildings.

  • Daytime works will continue in front of Headingley Central (Arndale) to provide an improved pedestrian crossing, new cycle track and new paving towards Wood Lane.

  • New bus shelters to be installed in January 2026.


Section 1: Layby and paving works outside Arndale Centre


Section 2

• Works started on the western side of the road between St. Michael’s Road and North Lane.

• The continuous crossing at Bennett Road junction has been completed after a two-week road closure. Regular vehicle access to Bennett Road from A660 is now open.

• Flagging works outside of Subway (Shire Oak Road) completed.


Upcoming works:

  • Works to continue between St.Michael’s Road and North Lane

  • New bus shelters to be installed in January 2026.


Section 5

• Flagging works are continuing in this area throughout December and January.

• Works on the junction of Hyde Park Road and the A660 are now completed.


Upcoming works:

  • Works to continue at the Woodhouse Street closure throughout December – the road closure will be lifted over the Christmas period, to allow access into and out of the city centre and will be reintroduced on January 5th 2026.

  • Details of the closure is on our website and have been communicated to those who have signed up to news updates on the website. Signage is onsite, and our contractor’s stakeholder engagement officer has continued communication with affected businesses face-to-face throughout.

  • Works will then move towards Victoria Road junction which is the final area of the job.


Section 5 Paving works outside The Crescent of Woodhouse Street/Lane


  • Flagging works are continuing in this area throughout December and January.

  • Works on the junction of Hyde Park Road and the A660 are now completed.


Upcoming works:

  • Works to continue at the Woodhouse Street closure throughout December – the road closure will be lifted over the Christmas period, to allow access into and out of the city centre and will be reintroduced on January 5th 2026.
