Free travel for disabled bus pass holders

Tomorrow we're expecting a big update on Labour Mayor Tracy Brabin's plans to bring West Yorkshire buses into public control (you can read more here).
In the meantime, we're really pleased that disabled pass holders across West Yorkshire will soon be able to travel for free at any time of day.
The change begins in Wakefield from May this year, allowing the Mayor to test its impact before rolling it out across the region from April 2027.
Tracy Brabin said: “Making travel free throughout the week for disabled people will better connect pass holders to jobs and training, breaking down barriers to opportunity and helping to grow our economy.”
Public control of buses gives us a lot more opportunity to improve buses across the region. Rather than each bus company competing and just focused on their own routes, we'll be able to introduce cross-service ticketing, new city-wide routes, and penalties for lack of reliability. We're also campaigning for cheaper family bus tickets.
