Getting ready for student changeover: What’s happening and how you can help
As the student changeover period approaches we’re working closely with the council and universities to help keep our neighbourhoods clean and safe. The key change over dates are Tuesday 30th June and Wednesday 1st July, but the council's intensive cleaning activity starts week of 15th June. In our ward the areas most affected are Beckett Park, Otley Road, Church Wood Avenue, and bits of Meanwood. What the council is doing The council’s job during changeover is to collect left

Quick news from the week
We've already got the latest Lawnswood update, new litter bin locations, the latest Marathon briefing, skate park news and pothole news in the newsletter. So here are the little bits: Northern Gas works happening on Otley Old Road with 3-way traffic lights and a part closure of Tinshill Drive in April We attended the St Paul's Warm Welcome this Monday and took the opportunity to remind people how worthwhile it is to attend (plus do some washing up and pick up some casework).

Graffiti clean up - tell us where it's an issue
We often report graffiti as we're out on our rounds, and when we have the time we sometimes have a go at cleaning it ourselves - recently in West Park and in Cookridge for example . Help us tackle it by sending us photos and/or locations. Thank you!

McDonald's sign removed on Otley Road
Last week the big red 'McDonalds' sign was removed from Yorkshire Water property on Otley Road, following our planning complaint. We admit it's not the biggest or worst crime, and only a tiny part of what we've worked on this week, but we're sharing it here because quite a lot of people had emailed us about it, and to let you know that we're always happy to take up this kind of thing! We also got Yorkshire Water to cut back the hedges on Otley Road by the treatment works.

Flooding and blocked drains
Thank you to the residents who report these issues to us. In particular the blocked drain / gully on Otley Road which has led to flooding around the YMCA. We reported it and the team are going to clear it. Please do report anything like this that you spot to: Report a blocked gully - leeds.gov.uk Of course if that doesn’t work you’re welcome to email us and we’ll pass it on, especially if it feels very urgent.

How's your street sign looking?
On one of our weekly street surgeries we noticed that the Darnley Road sign (fun fact, JRR Tolkien of Hobbit and Lord of the Rings fame used to live on Darnley Road) was looking worse for wear, and a couple of our local residents agreed. It has now been replaced. How's yours looking? Graffiti or damage can be be rectified.

Where do you see litter?
Whenever we see litter or flytipping we report it. Here's a picture of particularly anti-social fly tipping from by Meanwood Community Centre. We're working with the council to crack down on litter across the ward. It's just depressing and it's bad for the environment. If you spot any please report it online here . And if there is a place where it's becoming a frequent problem we'd love for you to let us know. We can organise litter picks, organise clean up days like we did r
