Tesco licence application

Tesco are planning to open a store in the other half of Wilkos. This includes a licence to sell alcohol. Please take a look at the application below. You can formally share your thoughts with Entertainment Licensing by email: Entertainment.Licen@leeds.gov.uk
We agree with the Headingley and Hyde Park Labour Councillors (it's in their ward) that Tesco should have the same Licensing rules as the recently opened Morrisons further down, but we haven't written our own submission yet.
It's worth knowing that objections to this application must be on Licensing grounds to be effective. Like many of you, frankly we would rather an independent local business here. Or something useful like Wilkos was. We miss the cleaning and stationary products!
However, ultimately that's not in our power. Businesses have a right to open a business, and our only formal powers are to make objections or support when a Licensing or Planning application is lodged.
Bearing this in mind, our focus as Councillors across these wards is to ensure that new businesses do not negatively contribute to the Otley Run - which we consider a top priority.
