Taylor's Sports Bar - our objection

We’ve formally objected to a retrospective planning application to turn a former restaurant at 107 Otley Road into a bar, with outdoor drinking space.
Our full objection is quite a bit longer, so we've shared a summary of our concerns below. We strongly encourage you to submit your own comments on the Planning portal. Simply visit the Planning website here

• Noise and disturbance -The venue is right next to homes, and we’ve had repeated reports of loud music (often with doors open), large groups outside, weekend disruption and more.
• Spreading the Otley Run - This would extend pub crawl activity across Otley Road into an area that has traditionally been shops, cafés and restaurants – not bars. It's inappropriate.
• Highway safety – People are being encouraged to cross a busy section of the A660 between venues, and we’ve seen near misses with traffic. Highways agree with us and have formally objected.
• Loss of balance in the area – Planning policies are clear that Headingley should have a mix of uses. Replacing a restaurant with a bar risks tipping that balance further.
We’ve based our objection on the Headingley Neighbourhood Plan, which is designed to manage exactly these kinds of impacts and was created between residents, councillors, and planning experts.
We’ll keep pushing for a decision that protects residents while supporting a balanced, thriving local centre.
