Airport planning application

You might have heard that Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) have put in a planning application to change the way that night flights are regulated.

We want as many residents as possible to take a look and comment on the application in full. We’ve provided a brief summary below along with details of how to access it so you can read and comment.

Our view as ward councillors is that we don’t want more night disruption than residents currently get, and we’ll assess the application and submit our comments on that basis.

Jools can’t be involved in that as she’s on the planning committee that may make the decision, and therefore must remain independent and neutral. We do encourage you to contact Emma and Izaak with any questions in the meantime.

The airport are applying for the control on night flights to be based on an assessment of the level of noise produced overall, rather than the number of flights per aircraft, which is how it currently works.

The airport also wants to change the time period defined as ‘night’ from the current 23:00 - 07:00 to 23:30 - 05:59, and they’re proposing some local mitigation such as grants for window glazing for those residents most affected by noise .

Please do read the application and our fuller summary. You can access it by going to the Leeds council planning applications site and searching the reference 26/04635/FU.

If you have trouble accessing it please do contact us.

You have until 25th September to leave comments.
