Update on tackling the Otley Run
Local crime advice in Weetwood
Here's how you can try to stay safe and prevent crime in our area.
Speak to the police
If you see anything at all, even just people trying their luck on open doors, then report it. You may save someone else from being a victim. You can do that either by ringing 101 or the West Yorkshire police webchat.
In general, we have a truly excellent local Neighbourhood Police Team. We speak to them often. They prioritise their patrols and community work based on where the reports and evidence of crime is. You report, you get more policing.
You can come along to our six-weekly Police and Communities Together (PACT) meetings - sign up to our weekly email newsletter for date reminders.
Help us communicate important news and advice
We use local street Whatsapp groups to share advice directly from the police. Please see how you can help us do that here.
Off road bikes and nuisance vehicles
Vehicle crime information and advice from the police
Here's our previous news post with LOTS of very useful information about different types of vehicle crime, and how to prevent it.
RING doorbells
There have been worrying reports that criminals are able to block Ring doorbells, meaning you can't capture film of them stealing a car for example.
A very helpful resident called Rachel has contacted RING. They do not currently have a solution, but if you notice your doorbell playing up or if someone does successfully block your doorbell you should call RING customer services on 01727 263045 and speak to an adviser - as they may well have the recording, or they may be able to see the issue. Other than that they will do a virtual check on their device and if under warranty will replace the product.
Set up a Neighbourhood Watch
We've worked with constituents who have done this and it has made a real difference to the area. Check here to find out more about what a Neighbourhood Watch is and how to set one up for your street. If you'd like some help, for example writing to your neighbours to see if there is interest, just let us know. We're here to help.
Our pro-active community work
We always have a scheme running with the local police to tackle crime. Whether it's speeding action days - where they come and do extra enforcement on roads with repeat offenders - or accompanying them outside schools to tackle nuisance parking, or finding funding for extra enforcement on the Otley Run. We update on this work in our email newsletter. We will always make this a priority. If you have a concern or an idea, please contact us - we'd love to chat.
