Last week we shared the planning documents and an update on the Weetwood Police Station redevelopment plans.
There's a lot to read through so we thought it'd be useful to share some of the key details here too.
The Planning on this is agreed, the next step is agreement on a Construction Plan before work can start.
Weetwood Police Station - depsite the name - is in our neighbouring ward of Adel and Wharfedale. But we hope this is still of interest to you.
What will we do?
As Councillors we've already got a working relationship with Pickard Properties, who are the developers, because they're also developing the Tetley Hall site. We've found this useful when issues inevitably arise or people have questions.
So our role will be to get things dealt with as quickly and comprehensively as possible.
Equally, we'll keep residents updated with the practical details - just as we have with the weekly Lawnswood updates.
What it will be:
127 homes, mostly 1-2 beds aimed at young professionals and downsizers
The building has a flat roof design with roof terraces, green roofs and solar panel infrastructure
A landscaped green space, including a new area available to the public
A pedestrian bridge connecting it directly to Otley Road, designed to weave through the trees
Parking beneath the building
Mature trees around the development to be retained, and more planted, to help screen it - one tree will need to be removed
£700,000 contribution to affordable homes programmes
Developer funding for local community infrastructure, e.g. investment in green space/playgrounds locally
What will the impact on traffic be?
The modelling suggests less peak-time traffic than the old police station use because the police station has significant operational traffic.
The measures to reduce it further include car club provision, 144 secure cycle parking spaces, a funded travel plan to encourage sustainable journeys (this usually includes help with purchasing a bike or bus season ticket), and on-site parking of 140 car spaces including EV charging and 13 motorbike spaces.
