How we'll get better buses

The 38, 19, 91, 23, 24, X84, 28... chances are you sometimes rely on one or more of these services.
We've been lobbying FirstBus about improvements to these services, sharing people's experiences with them and asking about their plans to improve reliability.
But the real game changer will be next year, when Mayor Tracy Brabin brings them into public control. It'll give us a proper transport system like London and now Manchester has:
Reliability targets for operators, meaning they will pay if they're not reliable enough
Simplified fares, routes, and timetables based on what we need - rather than competition between different companies who run partial routes
More between-suburb routes, you shouldn't have to go into town to get to a neighbouring suburb
Cross service ticketing
100% electric buses across the fleet
An end to ghost buses! Using a new central control room we'll not have the issue of buses that appear on the screen and then disappear just as they're due. We've long campaigned for this.
That will all make a huge difference. As Weetwood councillors we're also campaigning for cheaper family tickets. It shouldn't be cheaper to drive and park in town than to take your kids on the bus.
If you live on the Otley Road and want to get into town reliability might not be your problem, but cost definitely can be. We think that cheaper, more reliable buses with better routes will be a game changer for people who would like to use the bus rather than drive.
