Protecting and investing in Clayton Woods

Our Friends of Clayton Woods group now has nearly 300 members on Facebook, local people who are contributing through litter picks and historical research and photography to celebrate this amazing woodland.

So what next?

We had a fantastic meeting last week at the Fox and Hounds to make plans for where we take the group. Currently it's on Facebook but Simon, our resident archaeologist and one of the key volunteer organisers, has set up a WhatsApp group. If you don't use Facebook but are interested let us know by reply.

The plans include:

  • Clean up day on Sunday 17th May - 11.30am at the Silk Mill Approach entrance to the woods

  • We've made contact with the council Rangers team who are going to lead some voluntary activities to protect and enhance the biodiversity of the woods

  • One of the volunteers is planning a nature walk, pointing out key flora and fauna

  • We're looking at whether Spring Wood should be classified as Ancient Woodland

If you have some skills that you think could be useful or you just want to find out more and enjoy the woods then take a look at the group or let us know. We think this is a big big opportunity for our area!
