With their HQ right here in Weetwood, there's a new group in town... we're supporting them and hope to join at least one or two of their upcoming dates - they have one at Golden Acre Park on Saturday 21st February (see Eventbrite below):

Leeds Lapwings: Community Birdwatching in Leeds

Leeds Lapwings is a community birdwatching group based in Leeds, set up to make nature and wildlife more accessible to people who might not otherwise feel that birdwatching is for them.

They run relaxed, guided bird walks across Leeds and the surrounding areas, focusing on local green spaces such as nature reserves, parks and waterways. Their walks are friendly, inclusive and beginner-focused, with no prior experience or equipment needed. Binoculars can be borrowed free of charge, and the emphasis is very much on learning, slowing down and enjoying being outdoors together.

Leeds Lapwings walks are free to attend and are open to anyone who shares our values, but they have a particular focus on adults in the 20-45 year-old age groups. They aim to create a supportive, low-pressure environment where people can build confidence, connect with others and develop a deeper appreciation for local wildlife.

Beyond their walks, Leeds Lapwings are interested in the wider wellbeing benefits of nature connection and helping people build a lasting relationship with the outdoors. They are fully run by volunteers and any optional contributions they receive go towards covering essential costs such as public liability insurance and running future events.

You can find out more about Leeds Lapwings and what they have been up to via the channels below and can book onto their walks via Eventbrite:
