Last night it was possible to cross the road with the safety of a pedestrian crossing for the first time ever, on our way to the police and community meeting in Cookridge.

We'll update the biggest news on this scheme here but for in-week news, urgent announcements, and Eric Wright's (the contractor) weekly updates of work completed you should join our Weetwood News WhatsApp broadcast group.

Please do share this with your neighbours too, as people are telling us they find it very useful to get these quick, informative messages.

It's not at all spammy as it is broadcast-only.

You can also message us directly on there to let us know about urgent matters we should communicate about.

In the meantime, here's Friday's round up from Eric Wright:

"Lawnswood Roundabout Scheme - Update

This week we have set up and mobilised our compound (adjacent to the YMCA) and commenced Phase 1 of our works.

We have carried out some intrusive surveys via our sub-contractors.  These are to investigate the position of services below ground.  This is detailed work which involves hand digs and specialised equipment.  We need to do this so we know what we will encounter once we commence the full work package with machinery.

We have commenced the lane closures to the East side (dual carriageway by Weetwood Hall), and the North side (Otley Road), during the hours of 09.30 & 15.30.  Outside of these times the carriageways are open as normal.

We have also started landscaping maintenance by the Weetwood Hall boundary in preparation for the drainage installation works.  Prior to these works, we engaged an ecologist to review the area for nesting birds so that we can be confident we are not disturbing wildlife in the area.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during the start of the project."
