We've shared below the latest weekly Lawnswood update. Below that we've also shared a notice from the National Highways agency about a partial closure of the M62 for work on Ardsley railway bridge starting Friday 29th May.
Lawnswood Roundabout Scheme – Update
In area 9C (outside Weetwood Hall) kerbing works are continuing at pace this week. Traffic signal poles are ready to be installed now BT have reset their chamber. Most of the block paving has been completed in this area, and the lighting column sleeves will be added here, for the columns to be inserted in at a later date, avoiding disturbing the groundworks.
In phase 4 (outside Lawnswood School) signal ducting installations have commenced, along
with drainage works and preparations for kerbing.

In Phase 7 (by the Police station / sub-station) the gulley connections are ongoing. We will be stripping topsoil and removing existing kerbs on A660 Otley Rd this week as we move further north.
In phase 6 Yorkshire Water are progressing with the service diversion works to accommodate the new layout of the roundabout and surrounding roads. Once they have completed their works, we will commence work in this area.
In phase 9b we continue to work on the footways and the crossing. The temporary crossing has now been removed. The old bus shelter is to be removed; we await confirmation of a date for this.
Other feedback:
We are aware that there have been a lot of queries about the shape of the roundabout and why it isn’t round, including some comments that we might be building it incorrectly. The shape of the old roundabout, alongside the new, can be seen on the Leeds City Council website.
The shape of the new roundabout is carefully designed to guide traffic into the correct lanes and support the enhanced safety of the design.
M62 partial closure - notice from the National Highways agency:
"We’re writing with a reminder of some work National Highways is carrying out on the M62 near your ward at the end of May.
We’ll be closing the M62 westbound between junction 29 (Lofthouse) and junction 28 (Tingley) over a full weekend. This closure will allow us to carry out essential waterproofing work on Ardsley railway bridge.
The weekend closure is due to start at 9pm on Friday 29 May and continue until 5am on Monday 1 June.
A full weekend closure will also allow us to carry out the work as quickly as possible, reducing disruption to motorists. If we were to carry out the work under lane closures, the work would need to take place over a minimum of six weeks, including peak traffic periods, and we believe this would cause more disruption in the Leeds area.
This full weekend closure is the safest way of undertaking the work to minimise the risk to both the workforce and drivers.
This work is very weather-dependent and dry weather is key for the waterproofing to be a success. This is why we’ve planned the work for a drier time of year. However, we may need to reschedule this work if heavy rain prevents us from carrying this out. We have also tried to avoid conflicts with major events in and around Leeds City Centre as much as possible.
We’ve also undertaken traffic modelling to understand the likely disruption to motorists, and we believe during the Saturday and Sunday peaks (10am-5pm) it will take approximately 30 minutes extra to drive this stretch of the network.
