Much needed improvements we campaigned for confirmed and coming to the Grove Lane area - work starting soon this summer!
The results of the consultation about road safety in the Grove Lane / Grove Road area are in.
New pedestrian crossing and other improvements we’ve campaigned for confirmed, here’s the list:
The provision of a new zebra crossing on Grove Lane (picture C)
Resurfacing of the Meanwood Valley Trail between Monkbridge Road and Grove Lane to enable use all year around (picture C)
An upgrade to the existing zebra crossing on Grove Lane (near Grove Road) to improve compliance and increase safety (picture B)
An upgrade of the existing vehicle point closure on Wood Lane to make it easier for people to walk, wheel, and cycle through (picture A)
Improvement of directional signage
We’ll share the detailed designs of each of these as soon as we’re able to.
The community proposal for a point closure on Grove Road will not proceed as part of this project.
We asked for it to be taken off the table because it’s too big a change for what was a narrow consultation.
So what next? We’re focused on getting positive change for our area.
There are already some further changes we’re supporting in the area including a new pedestrian island on Meanwood Road / Bentley Lane, and a new pedestrian crossing on MonkBridge Road.
But what we REALLY need is a truly inclusive consultation - open table, blank paper, get residents from different streets together to discuss their own ideas and see how they would impact each other. We need to look at the area in the round.
We’ll start this process after May, the results of this consultation are a great starting point.
