A note from our sports correspondent following the dramatic Super League playoff:

ree

Commiserations to Leeds Rhinos whose Super League season was brought to a close at AMT Headingley in the most dramatic and heartbreaking fashion on Saturday evening against St Helens.

Having fallen behind to an early Saints try The Rhinos went in at half-time leading by 12 - 6.

Leeds dominated much of the second half but failed to turn pressure into points and were only able to extend their lead by 2, those coming from the boot of Jake Connor who kicked a penalty to extend the lead by 8. With just four minutes left on the clock Saints crossed to reduce the gap to just 2 points.

Then, as the clock ticked towards the 80 minute mark, Leeds conceded a penalty which allowed St Helens to attack and cross the line to break Rhinos and the home crowd’s heart.

It’s certainly not the way they would have wanted the season to end but we wish them all the very best for 2026. Enjoy the break, you’ve earned it.
