Stopping Yorkshire Stone theft

We know how frustrating Yorkshire paving stone theft can be, so that’s why we’re trialling new forensic DNA marking technology, SelectaDNA, to help tackle the theft of Yorkshire stone paving here in Leeds.
This system uses invisible DNA markers and microdots that can identify where stolen stone came from using UV light and microscopes, helping police trace and recover materials.
Clear warning signs are also being installed to deter thieves.
In other areas of the UK, this has reduced this theft by 87.5%, and has led to stolen stone being returned to site.
